One of their besr
From Bill Eckert of Phila., Pennsylvania on .
I was lucky enough to see this show on this tour. I was also lucky to get 3rd row seats. I was able to make eye contact with them.Even Robert Fripp. This DVD captures a lot of the excitement that I saw that night.Great song selection, great camera work. It's not as good as being there but, it is one of their best DVDs that I have seen.

5.1 missing
From Hugo of Lund, Sweden on .
musically is obviously very very good, as all crimson's BUT, the "Live in Japan" part is not in 5.1 as claimed, only The Noise is in 5.1.
just a big observation

It would be 5 stars but "live in japan" is not really DTS as the case states!!! A BIG PRODUCTION MISTAKE!!!
A good double featured concert
From Anonymous of Torrent, Spain on .
Excellent videos from the Discipline era. The first concert in Japan is filmed on video and features an awesome performance of the group plus some out-of-the-stage footage in Japan, which is very interesting. The second concert is filmed at Frejus, filmed with 35mm film and thus it is well recorded the concert isn't as great as Japan, so it is better to say this is an extra rather than another concert. But I recommend it if you are a fan of 80s Crimson as me!
Highwatermark
From Paul Engle of Phoenix, Arizona on .
I believe this lineup and era of the mighty Crim to be the most energetic and creative of the life of the King, not that the life has dwindled, but here we see King Crimson as it was meant to be seen; spontaneous and always shifting from one emotion to another without any fluctuation or inconsistency. This recording is a sheer joy to watch over and over.

As Good As It Gets
From Joseph McFarland of Manassas, Virginia on .
I am a fan of 1969-74 Crimson ... and to a large extent 1994-present Crimson. But I think the greatest Crimson was this 1981-84 Crimson.
Whether you feel that way or not, you owe it to yourself to see these performances. The power and brilliance of this band is on display. The screaming, the howling, the floating tones, the open space in the music, the rhythms ... this band had something great between them, a sum made possible by all four parts/players.
A STEAL!
From Joe Basile of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania on .
Over twenty years latter and you really can't tell, maybe Adrian's pants. Both videos on one DVD for the money is a steal. I forgot how refreshing the SLEEPLESS video was and still is. I forgot how much I loved LTIA 4, and INDUSTRY! My favorite of both has always been Fripp on THE SHELTERING SKY, this alone makes it worth the price.
Sorry to miss Fripp at the Rex last week in the burg. Mom-in-law rushed to the hospital. How was the show?
MMMMM,,,, it's very special
From Matthu Stull of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on .
Mr. Fripp's solo on Sheltering Sky is what gets me. also waiting man is so cool, both times. So totally neato, and the mysterious lighting on the noise is pretty cool, I guess it's bad on one hand, but definitely dramatic. Fun really, I real good time. Watch it at my house some time.
Awesome!!!

I just got the DVD a couple weeks back and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Wow! It's brought back great memories of seeing KC in June 1984 (the DVD Japan show is from April '84) at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland. I'd forgotten how great this band was! So glad that this version of KC was recorded then for the DVD format of today. The sound quality is great mostly because the sound quality of the show itself sounds wonderful. The highlights (there are many!) to just name a few...anyone not familiar w/Robert Fripp or only think of him as the other half of the Enoesque ambience phase will be in for a treat. Fripp really is great and does some amazing guitar work. Interesting that you don't hear his name or Adrian Belew's mentioned as much as they should in discussions of the guitar greats. Belew really adds so much with his vocals...very nice, very nice. As for the bottom end guys, Tony Levin and Bill Bruford...all I can say is 'splendid!'. Levin's work on the Stick and Bass are really a gem...and his harmonies with Adrian are very nice. There's some nice interaction and interplay that goes on between all the band members (anyone ever in a band and on stage will see exactly what I'm talking about). The most most animated is Belew as he really attacks his guitar and effects to get the best out of his axe. As for Tony's Bass playing...check out 'Sleepless'...Bruford's drumming (oh Adrian does a bit of drumming too!) is wonderful...when he pounds that snare, his signature as far as I'm concerned...it sounds great. The Europe portion of the DVD is from 1982 and isn't quite as good from a visual standpoint, but still really nice. The DVD also has some great photos and the 'Sleepless' video. Overall, I'm really blown away by the excellent musicianship exhibited. It's really hard to believe that these guys were sounding so great in 1984...21 yrs ago!!! It really sounds so fresh and up to date...much like Hendrix there are plenty of bands out there that are 1/4 as good as these guys and aren't doing things they were doing electronically back then. Treat yourself and seek out this DVD!

Wonderful
From Joseph McFarland of Manassas, Virginia on .
I hadn't seen "The Noise" from 1982 before. It's a wonderful document. The 1984 footage is similarly wonderful. This band tended to make fans out of those who saw them live. I hope that this DVD introduces many new fans to this band and I don't doubt that, over the long haul, it will.
The band is creative, tasteful, and extremely powerful simultaneously. They swing, roar, soar, and prod the ears with wonderful rhythms and melodies. Music of the highest order if you ask me.
Good Picture Transfer, Sound .....
From A. Wint of Ft Lauderdale, Florida on .
This is a welcome release for those who do not have these shows on VHS or laser disc. However, i'm a bit disapponted in the sound quality.
I wish the DVD had a dedidcated PCM stereo track (Higher Resolution than Dolby Digital) as well as Dolby 5.1 since my Laser disc version (PCM encoding) of "Live in Japan" has clearly superior sonics. Also, mastering levels seem lower than other discs I own. Picture quality is as good as I've seen for this material howevever.

King Crimson - Neal and Jack and Me - Live 1982-1984 (DVD)
From A. Jones of San Francisco, California on .
I am one who owns the VHS tapes of these shows, and the only reason this collection doesn't get a five-star rating from me is because there is no 5.1 surround sound on the Japanese concert, though a menu option for such exists. That was a major-league disappointment, which made the 5.1 mix on the Frejus show more valuable and enjoyable. Why give us such a menu option if no such mix exists?
Finally!

Fantastic to see these shows finally on DVD. But it would've been great to have the complete Frejus show with the missing songs not on the VHS. Wonder why?
Highly recommended

Finally 2 great concerts on DVD - the LIVE IN JAPAN part is very very strong.
Hautement recommandé
From Thierry of Vallauris, France on .
A Something in the Air
From James of Hanover, Pennsylvania on .
Walking into the Mann Music Center that night, there was something in the air. The music of Senegambia - Kora Duets to be exact. I learned later that this was Alhaji Bai Konte and Malamini Jobate Folkways # 8514. I believe it was the special pre-concert music chosen by the band. I could not take my ears off of it and before too long other nerve endings were open a bit further in. By the time King Crimson took the stage and the opening percussion loops of Waiting Man had begun to pour forth, a possible world had been shown. From where did it come? And did its passing get echoed back in the infernal reaches of Indiscipline?
King Crimson - Neal and Jack and Me - Live 1982-1984 (DVD)
From Anonymous of Camarillo, California on .
It's interesting to note that the 1984 concert included in this set is missing 'Discipline', still only available on the Japanese import laser.
Nevertheless this one I look forward to.
