Extacy at the Riviera
From Mark van Kempen of Amsterdam, Netherlands on .
This is my favourite live recording of King Crimson in 1982. The band sounds very upbeat on this night, bordering on the extatic. Waiting Man is throbbing its way towards levitation. Thela Hun Ginjeet is very heavy, slightly manic and has Bill Bruford playing in a very attractive grooving way. The Sheltering Sky offers some serenity - less busy than other versions, which fits the mood of this piece very well.
Neil and Jack and Me is flying, soaring into uncharted mental heights. Listen to Adrian Belew's short but mindbending guitar solo in the middle of the piece and Bill Bruford's incredibly intense drumming. There are some tuning problems during this piece, but when faced with the Gates of Nirvana such earthly concerns become trivial. Elephant Talk is a monster, again propelled by Bill Bruford's tasty groove.
The remaining tracks are from the Frejus recording, and are very good too.
The sound quality of this recording is superb. Tt sounds even better than the Absent Lovers - Live in Montreal 1984 album.
Enjoyable Set
From Joseph McFarland of Manassas, Virginia on .
Good stuff. This is I think the night before "The Noise" was filmed, and the setlist has variation in it from that one. I'm quite happy to enjoy the one set on my DVD player and the other set while driving in my car. Good fidelity, good performance.
