King Crimson
Live at the Pier, New York
August 2, 1982
At the end of the summer day, the boisterous young NYC area rockers lined
up to file onto Pier 84, jutting out hundreds of feet into the Hudson
River. As we faced the stage, and Hell's Kitchen and Midtown Manhattan, the
sun was setting behind our backs over the New Jersey Palisades.

Whatever Happened to The Pier??
From Fred Hetzel of New York, New York on .
My first time seeing KC...the Sheltering Sky contained herein is still mind-blowing, even after all these years.
One of my friends hated the show, saying the music sounded like "popcorn". An astute observation :-)
35 years ago & it sounds amazing
From Gtrips of Lawn Guy Land, New York on .
I was @ this show. Was this the entire show? I can't remember. Sound is superior - clear SB quality and mix although I think Bill sounds a little drowned out by Bob & Adrian, who are loud and clear. There is a little high end clipping and tiny bits of static but doesn't effect the overall presentation of the show. The Sheltering Sky is amazing as is Larks Tounge II - Tony sounds deep and firm lots of resonance - check out the beginning of Elephant Talk. Well worth the price since this is such a stellar recording.
A great night!
From Dan Puleo of New York, New York on .
I remember going to this show fondly. My first Crimshow ever!! The energy had an intensity I had never experienced before. I'm sure you'll love it too.
Amazing sonics and performance
From Bill Cormier of Malta, New York on .
Thanks for this great represention of the summer `82 tour, the performance as well as the (soundboard/16 track ?) sonics of this release are just amazing. It actually sounds better to my ears than any other live `82 release,KCCC or otherwise.
Would love to see a release of the Feb./March `82 tour including the unreleased tune performed about a half dozen times on this tour only.

Powerful Pier Performance
From Mark Barbour of Belle Mead, New Jersey on .
This was my first Crimson show and man, it was a doozy! I was third row in front of Fripp and I've always remembered this as one of the most incredible performances I've ever seen. While the double trio group is terrific nothing, to my ears, beats this tremendous 1980's cast for lineups with Belew and Levin onboard. Hearing Bruford wailing on an acoustic kit brings back warm, fuzzy memories from the glorious days of tube amps. His double bass drum work going out of "Neurotica" let me breathless back on that August night and it still gives me shivers as I listen fondly today.
This is by far the best documentation of live performances from the 'Discipline' and 'Beat' albums that I've ever heard. Fripp is just scary in spots, Belew is also a monster when needed and the entire band is tight and precise song after song. Robert's work during "The Sheltering Sky" and his lead at the end of "Neal And Jack And Me" cut through the humid summer night like a frozen sword of Arthurian legend.
Belew sings a few bars of "New York, New York" during "Indiscipline" and there's nice drum solo that's not noted in the song list starting off that track. "Elephant Talk" is played with the gutsy kick it deserves and the encore "Larks Tongues In Aspic: Part II" is a great finale to an all-too-short set list.
The sound is much better than other Club releases I have bought over the past few years. This is a great disc and I suggest anyone at sea about buying it jump on this Pier quick and hear a fantastic historical performance.
