The Fillmore East concerts in New York 1969 were an important landmark for
King Crimson. The band had, in the space of only nine months, risen from
obscurity to international recognition, and the American tour was a crucial
part of this process. The two nights are enjoyably different, including the
recovery from "dropped stitches". The band is in consistently good form,
especially on A Man A City and Schizoid Man, which are taken at blistering
speed, and in my opinion, the best way, because if the fast sections are
too comfortable the half speed sections become relatively ponderous. So I'm
pleased to have found this Fillmore East tape, and hope that it is as
valuable to the collector as it is to me. Michael Giles
Robert Fripp - guitar
Ian McDonald - flute, saxophone, mellotron, vocal
Greg Lake - bass guitar, lead vocal
Michael Giles - drums, percussion, vocal
Peter Sinfield - words and illumination

LONG LIVE THE KING
From Mark van Kempen of Amsterdam, Netherlands on .
Compared to the Marquee gig, KC sound more grand, stately, older in a way. Epitaph is very impressive, and 21st CSM very hot, especially because of Michael Giles'frenetic drumming. Fantastic stuff.
Epitaph/ Good material
From Bill Eckert of Phila., Pennsylvania on .
I already have these recordings from the Epitaph cd.They were in the original Epitaph box set which I don't have. They used these Fillmore shows in the box set. Also they used them in the CD that I have. If you don't own either of these I say buy it.It is one of the few places you can find the original band live.
A Man, A City -- well, actually two
From Joe Prisco of Snohomish, Washington on .
This release may confuse a few people -- first, it offers three tracks already released on EPITAPH, all of which are available AGAIN as a download with completed "Crimson King" (thanks to an audience recording). Whew!! How is one to decide? And where does this release come in??
I'll make it easy for you: two performances of "A Man, A City" were the selling point for me and should be for you as well; they alone justify purchase. The first is the more 'together' of the two (despite being probably a debut) but if you have to have two (as I did) here they are! Much better IMHO than the studio rendition.
This Is Raw Power In 1969
From Sean of Campbelltown, NSW, Australia on .
This is the 11th live Crimson album that I've purchased and the first one that blew me away so much that I felt compelled enough to write a review of it. These performances are absolutely scorching with intensity and passion and represent a band absolutely on fire and playing for their lives!! The sound quality is good enough to enjoy played very loud but raw enough to sound very exciting. The Hyde Park show is great for it's historic significance (and the instrumental Schizoid Man track - making Karaoke Crimson a reality!!) and very decent performance, but for a live album from the first Crimson line-up, this is the one to write home about.
