disturbing music, a torture to ears
From mychajlo of Krakow, Poland on .
It is not easy to listen such tracks as "Vector Shift", "Heavy ConstruKction" or "Contrary ConstruKction". It's a torture to ears. Moreover, the same tracks you can find on "The ProjeKcts box". If you need more P2, I suggest to choose other live performances:
"Live In Chicago", "Live In Charlotte" or "Live In Pittsburgh" (two of them available to download from DGMLIVE). Those shows include some acoustic tracks and soundscapes and, in my opinion, are much more interesting than "Live In Northampton".
Industrial Jazz?
From Joe Prisco of Snohomish, Washington on .
Having heard two shows from this band, I knew what to expect; neither LIVE GROOVE nor PLANET really gave me the same appreciation. As much as I enjoy those two releases, Club 17 is the one that really hits the mark. PLANET showed the trio discovering their world; LIVE showcased the arrangements they relied on for their improvisations. Here, though, we get the 'whole show' presentation, with a monster improv just to start the show! It's like they just can't turn off the creative genie; it gushes forth, over and over, pulling the three musicians along for the ride.
Yes, that makes for a certain frenzy, which would be a little startling to those expecting PLANET, and it's almost anarchic after LIVE. To these ears, though, this show is amazing document and a new high-water mark for the band.
If there were such a thing as industrial jazz, this would be one of its classic albums.
Good Stuff
From Joseph McFarland of Manassas, Virginia on .
Adrian's drumming is a bit more "rock steady" here, as opposed to the more fragmented playing on "Space Groove" and "Live Groove". I actually prefer his more fragmented style, but anyway here he is changing up a bit. The guitars are loud and aggressive, not unlike P4.
The music's less fragile and more ear-assaulting than it was on "Live Groove". The biggest change though is that there is about 20 minutes of stuff here not on the other live album, including the opening track wherein Adrian keeps a very steady hip-hop/funk beat and the guitars wail over it.
If you're a fan of P2 I think you will likely enjoy this. I enjoy hearing it, but my one complain is the way we're told a rollicking house version of "Schizoid Man" was played as an encore that night, but it's not included here (though it would fit).
Excellent
From Ross Mills of Bethesda, Maryland on .
Very tight, with Adrian on drums providing a steady backbeat.
