Live in Central Park
From David Fuchs of Brooklyn, New York on .
I was 19 at the time. I arrived at Central Park before the show started and did not have a ticket. Once of the big tractor trailer trucks was parked blocking on of the entrances by the side of the stage. I got down on my belly and crawled under the truck to gain access. I was worried that one of the Staff might see some kid sitting there and throw me out but...I just sat there quietly and nobody bothered me. About an hour later they started to let the ticket holders in. I remember it being an amazing show and I was totally determined to see why my Drumming idol Bill Buford left YES to play with this band as all I knew at the time was the first KC record. I was totally blown away by the performance. Never hearing of John Weston at the time I was also impressed by his bass playing and vocals. Now, being 66 I look back and feel I was blessed to have gotten in to seeing KC perform that hot summer night!
Great Final Statement
From Greg Smith of Auburn, Georgia on .
Lots of great stuff available from this lineup, but it's a truly good album. Obviously similar to CD 1 of the Great Deceiver box set, but surprisingly different to the regular listener.
A must have in my opinion!
Always great
From Bill Eckert of Phila., Pennsylvania on .
I have quite a few Crimson live CDs. This I feel could be the best. They never let the listener down. The sound is so clear that it feels like they are in the same room as me.
I was there also
From Edward Gentz of Albuquerque, New Mexico on .
This was the only tiome I ever got to see KC. This recoding has been on my to-buy list for some time now. Can wait to get it in the mail. Hail Fripp!
sounds great but pitch is off
From Bruce Meske of Seattle, Washington on .
To my ears, the pitch is off. It runs slightly slow and needs to be speed-corrected.
Very good sound for an aud tape at a big outdoor show.
From Jerry Smith of Tacoma, Washington on .
There is no doubt that this is a classic and a very good example of what the Collector's Club is for. The last live performance by Fripp, Bruford, Wetton and Cross. The performances are execellent and the recording quality is very, very good. A must have for any fan of the band.
Cerberus barks and bites
From Matthew Stull of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on .
Just commenting on Cerberus, but really the "21st" solo is Cataclysmic!!!!
Cerberus is an indication of the band just blowing completely off, the testosterone is enthroned here in a blistering improv. it's not really one of the most thought provoking, there is hardly any sensitivity which i like about many other improvs, but this is just "balls to the wall" playing. it seems as if they are giving their very last juices here. I wonder about the energy levels on tours. i've been on a few myself and there is a definite arc, the first one is fresh and maybe not completely 'tight' then there is the middle, maybe some down nights, where band members are nearly hating each other, then at the end, one might think, 'oh its the last gig, it's been so memorable, let's blast'em hard with this last set*'. that seems to be the feeling here, *the last set til 81
Also the "Starless" is apocalyptic!!!
The band at it's very best
From Chris Lenox of New Orleans, Louisiana on .
WOW! Mr. Fripp says it all in the booklet's notes on this cd: "the first gig since the 1969 Crimson where the bottom of my spine registered "out of this world" to the same degree"..." I was moved to tears more than a few times on the first listen of this recording. This is an example of the band at it's very best.
I was there some clarification
From edjemusic of Milford, Connecticut on .
I am eager to own this recording. I attended this concert. I recall it well. To correct another reviewer here. King Crimson headlined that evening. Golden Earring opened the bill.
I recall meeting promoter Ron Delsner that night. It was a magic evening in Central Park and I can't wait to listen to the music from that night again.
Peace,
Ed Jennings
A Powerful Final Statement
From David Adair of Edina, Minnesota on .
Excellent final performance. The sound quality really isn't that bad. The person with the tape recorder seemed to know what they were doing for the most part. The performance is certainly a five. The sound quality might be more like 3.5, but still totally acceptable, considering this is the final live statement from this iteration.
The Last One
From mpc of collingswood, New Jersey on .
the last show by this version of the crim. get it if to only hear the unrestrained, ripping solo fripp lays down on 21st century! the recording is not very good, but it's steeped in history. i understand they were opening for the kinks this night!?! what a lopsided show!
