Swansong
From Mark van Kempen of Amsterdam, Netherlands on .
A curious affair, this concert. All recordings from the Eartbound tour have their own particular flavour, depending on the moods of the musicians, the mood of the audience, probably even the weather. This one sounds as if the band are at a low ebb. A sadness and inability to strike out seem to permeat the music. There is some banter, but it sounds rather hollow. Nevertheless, I like the atmosphere of this concert, and although the playing is not as fiery as on other dates, it has its own unique flavour. I woudn't want to miss this one.
a good intimate concert, but flawed
From Matt George of Escondido, California on .
this one is killer for the selection of songs, but my favorite song "Sailor's Tale" is ruined because Mel Collin's Mellotron is COMPLETELY out of tune and fades in and out of the mix.....sometimes TOO LOUD and obnoxious and irritating!
......it sounds TERRIBLE.....
but buy it anyway because it is a rare recording from that period.
Thanks,
Matt
Even The Letters is pretty good - 41/2 stars
From Jerry Smith of Tacoma, Washington on .
Another great release even thought it includes a couple of tunes that were never favorites live. The Letters gets one heck of a performance although I still wish they'd kept it as Drop In. The lyrics get lost in Ladies so we get one of Boz' Sha-Ba-Ra-Ra things. i do wish the opening Pictures Of A City (I'm guessing) was included. However, what is here smokes for the most part.
Don't hesitate - get this now
From TONY KULIK of WEST MIDLANDS, England on .
Possibly the best live recording I've heard from this incarnation of the band.
It conveys a relaxed and happy mood, brill improvisations and all members of the band on top form.
Excellent - more of this please
A Stunner
From Bob Birmingham of London, England on .
A lot of people will think I've fallen out of my tree and landed on my head... 'Earthbound' is my favourite Crimso album. If, like me, you love that album, do not hesitate, buy this now!
Extraordinary music => joy to tears to laughter
From Julien Mira of Boulder, Colorado on .
I'm writing this without a draft, just as it comed from the heart, something like this concert probably.
I just love that KC period, well I pretty much love all of them but because some "purist" tends to despise that era/singer (as mention in the inner notes) I would insist on the fact that this is absolutely GREAT music.
The title of this review is just a short version of what I felt listening to it.
Joy: because it's always good to hear new material from KC and because I love Formentera and Ladies Of .
Tears: Because I thought of Boz and Ian, and all those musicians that inspire me, make me feel good and died too soon. There were maybe not perfect (I don't know them after all), there were probably just humans but I know their music and so far for me it's all that matters: the music and the emotion.
Laughter: What a band of goofs: just listen to Ladies Of The Road...
Hhow can music makes such an effect...???
Anyway, as always I'm not disappointed, will I ever be?
Just loving it!!!
